It was a rainy day and we had the garden all to ourselves. I loved it. It was like being in our own private garden, with all the characteristics of a typical Japanese garden, like a stream, a pond with koi carp, a little bridge across the pond and a perfect selection and composition of trees and other plants, and a tea house of course (although this can be used by appointment only). Don't miss this little garden, the entrance is a little hidden in a side street behind Sumiyoshi Shrine.
Japanese Garden Rakusui-en, Hakata
What a hidden gem in Fukuoka city!

Hello there!

The modest entrance to Rakusui-en

Passing through the gate and entering the garden. Have a look at the mud walls,...

... they are really cool. Using old stones and broken roof tiles from the past keeps the history somewhat alive—very nice idea.

The lush green center of the garden in the beginning of April

Picturesque, or let's say just perfect waterfall

The koi were really curious—so cute.

The peak of the cherry blossoms was already over; but this tree here still showed some nice colors. This garden is a very nice place to wind down and forget the city life for a moment or two.
