The Daisetsuzan Mountain Festival in Asahidake Onsen takes place every year around the middle of June and is meant to be the official start of the hiking season. Local people and visitors gather around a bonfire and watch traditional Ainu rituals as well as some dancing and singing—a wonderful atmosphere.
