The Sendai Yagiyama Zoological Park opened in 1965, and has since become a popular place for locals and occasional tourists.

The zoo features 550 animals with 145 species, displayed with regards to their habitat and taxonomy. The zoo is located at the top of Mt. Yagiyama, nearby the amusement park ”Benny Land”. Accessible via bus from Sendai Station, or subway as of December 2015.
