Oouo Shrine

0 0 Review

According to legend, more than three centuries local residents invited a corrupt magistrate to party on the island of Okinoshima. However, after he was lured to the remote location the locals sprang their trap to be rid of him. They left him on the island, drunk and alone. Abandoned, the magistrate prayed for a miracle and a giant fish rescued him from certain death. In his gratitude, the reformed magistrate built Oouo Shrine, “large fish shrine”. The torii form a line toward Okinoshima and are rebuilt every 30 years.
