Rimpa (also often written as rinpa) is one of the major historical schools of Japanese painting, created in 17th Century Kyoto. Another iconic form of painting is impressionism, which grew in the 19th Century through the likes of Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. A special exhibition at Tokyo's Artizon Museum looks at the aesthetics of these two painting styles, and the achievements of painters from both styles.

Around 100 works will be displayed at the exhibition, including pieces which have been designated as National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties.

Getting there

The Artizon Museum (formerly known as the Bridgestone Museum of Art) is easily accessible via various stations.

It's located 5 minutes on foot from the JR Tokyo Station (take the Yaesu Central Exit), the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line's Kyobashi Station (take exit number 6 or 7), or Nihombashi Station, which is served by the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, Tozai Line, or the Toei Asakusa Line (take the B1 Exit).
