Daiju-ji Temple Digital Art Night 2025

This January, Daiju-ji Temple in Okazaki City will host a unique event combining centuries-old history with modern technology. The Tokugawa Shogun Family Temple, Seido-san Daiju-ji Temple Digital Art Night 2025 will take place from January 17 to 19, 2025, offering a chance to experience the cultural legacy of the Tokugawa family in a completely new way.

The event will feature projection mapping that brings the temple’s historic treasures to life, including sliding door paintings by Reizei Tameyasu which have been hidden from public view for over 40 years. High-definition digital projections will illuminate the temple’s Sanmon Gate and Tahoto Pagoda, creating a dynamic display of light and history.

Beyond the visual displays, attendees can participate in the "Light Offering" ceremony held in the main hall, a meaningful tradition that connects visitors to the temple's spiritual roots. For a fee of 1000 JPY, participants receive a candle where they can write their wishes, offering them to the gods in a gesture of hope and reverence.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to try out local specialties such as Hatcho miso yaki-onigiri and tai (sea bream) tempura, available at the dedicated food area from 5.30pm until 9pm (or until sold out) during the event dates.

The outdoor projection mapping and lighting displays can be enjoyed free of charge, but there is an admission fee for the night-time viewing of temple artifacts—this is priced at 800 JPY for adults, 500 JPY for students, and free for those below school age. No advance reservations are required.
